Accelleron opens new service station in Ecuador, gives support to country’s power shortage

Press release

Quito, Ecuador, September 17, 2024. Accelleron, a global technology leader in turbocharging, fuel injection and digital solutions in marine and energy industries, heeds the call of Ecuador’s energy crisis to provide fast & efficient overhauls of engine turbochargers from its new service station in Quito.

Recently, Accelleron celebrated the grand opening of its newest location in Quito, Ecuador.

The event highlighted several prominent guests, including Switzerland’s Ambassador to Ecuador, Marianee Jenni, and representatives of key customers and partners. Customers enjoyed a tour of the new state-of-the-art facility.

Located close to the airport and with new, advanced tools and machinery, this new Quito Service Station will enable Accelleron to provide even quicker turnaround for turbocharger service and repair.

In light of Ecuador’s current energy crisis, reducing engine downtime has become critically important to local power generators. Until recently, the majority (85%) of Ecuador’s electricity supply has been sourced from hydropower. However, a prolonged El Niño phenomenon has significantly reduced rainfall and river levels, causing power shortages and nationwide blackouts in recent months. Unable to meet energy demands with hydropower, the country has relied on its gas and diesel engine backup power generation to keep the grid, critical services, and data centers up and running, in order to protect the health, safety, and security of its inhabitants.

Ensuring that a fleet of engines is ready to come online in an instant necessitates proactive maintenance and repair. This is especially important for the engine turbochargers to fully optimize engine performance, and thus reduce both the consumption of costly fuel and emissions. This overhaul service, plus the sourcing and delivery of replacement spare parts, can cause an engine to be out of commission for weeks if not months.

However, Accelleron has been able to service Ecuador’s power generation turbochargers quickly through its Ecuadorian team of factory trained service engineers as well as the company’s commitment to 98% spare parts availability delivered within two days from its Baden, Switzerland headquarters. Accelleron’s new Quito Service Station further supports this quick turbo turnaround and reduced downtime with its proximity to the airport, plus expanded service and logistics capabilities.

The Quito Service Station has also been designed in alignment with Accelleron’s commitment to reduce its environmental impact, including solar panel energy production capacity. Accelleron is committed to reducing its worldwide CO2 emissions by 70% by 2030 compared to 2022.

Accelleron Industries Ltd. (ACLN: SIX Swiss Ex) is accelerating sustainability in the marine and energy industries as a global technology leader in turbocharging, fuel injection, and digital platforms for heavy-duty applications.
