Job Title: Legal Officer<\/p>\n
Duty Station: NURC Secretariat, Castries<\/p>\n
Reports to: Chief Executive Officer<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
Job Summary<\/p>\n
\u00b7 Works under the Chief Executive Officer to provide legal advice regarding the operations, rights and responsibilities of the Commission, its management and staff.<\/p>\n
\u00b7 Ensures that the NURC operates in accordance with the relevant legislation and regulations.<\/p>\n
\u00b7 Advises and coordinates all evidence for the NURC in all inquiries, disputes etc.<\/p>\n
\u00b7 Ensures compliance by regulated entities of licence conditions, relevant legislation and regulations.<\/p>\n
\u00b7 Monitors and evaluates all licences for compliance with the Legislation and licence conditions.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
Skills, Knowledge and Abilities<\/p>\n
\u00b7 A working knowledge and understanding of and demonstrated ability to ensure full compliance with the provisions of the licences, NURC Act, sector legislations, regulations, protocols, policies and standard operating procedures;<\/p>\n
\u00b7 Ability to use independent judgement and initiative, and develop creative and practical solutions to complex and difficult legal issues;<\/p>\n
\u00b7 Articulate and persuasive in oral communication, good writing style, sound judgement;<\/p>\n
\u00b7 Excellent interpersonal and communication skills;<\/p>\n
\u00b7 Ability to plan, organize and perform duties with minimum supervision<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
Qualifications and Experience<\/p>\n
\u00b7 A Bachelor of Law Degree plus a certificate in Legal Education<\/p>\n
\u00b7 At least five (5) years of experience as a practicing Attorney. Experience in utility practices and regulations would be an asset.<\/p>\n
\u00b7 Knowledge of the principles of alternative dispute resolution and utility operations management<\/p>\n

Compensation<\/p>\n
Remuneration will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.<\/p>\n
