{"id":25918,"date":"2020-11-24T15:51:33","date_gmt":"2020-11-24T19:51:33","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.carilec.org\/?p=25918"},"modified":"2020-11-24T15:51:33","modified_gmt":"2020-11-24T19:51:33","slug":"first-public-electric-vehicle-charging-station-to-be-ready-for-new-years-celebration-gas-station-operators-get-onboard","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/carilec.org\/first-public-electric-vehicle-charging-station-to-be-ready-for-new-years-celebration-gas-station-operators-get-onboard\/","title":{"rendered":"First Public Electric Vehicle Charging Station to be Ready for New Year\u2019s Celebration \u2013 Gas Station Operators Get Onboard"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-9682 alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/www.carilec.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/03\/JPSLogo.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"145\" height=\"59\" srcset=\"https:\/\/carilec.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/03\/JPSLogo.png 145w, https:\/\/carilec.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/03\/JPSLogo-600x244.png 600w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 145px) 100vw, 145px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Drivers of electric vehicles, heading to the North Coast for New Year\u2019s celebrations, will be able to charge up their vehicles in Drax Hall St. Ann, where the first publicly accessible charging station will be constructed \u2013 just in time to ring in 2021.\u00a0 The new station will be located at Boots Gas Station, followed quickly by more charging station options across the island.\u00a0 This, as TOTAL Jamaica has also signed contracts with JPS, which will construct Electric Vehicle charging stations at four of TOTAL\u2019s locations, kicking off with Ironshore, St. James by the end of January.\u00a0 The other charging stations at TOTAL will be in Manor Park and Harbour View in St. Andrew, and Port Antonio, Portland.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Senior Vice President of Generation and Special Projects, Joseph Williams, noted that the inclusion of these stakeholders, is an excellent first step in creating the infrastructure necessary to support the widespread use of electric cars, buses and other vehicles.\u00a0 \u201cOur stakeholders are an important part of making this programme a reality.\u00a0 These two retailers are a great start \u2013 giving us outlets in both the Corporate Area and rural Jamaica.\u00a0 And there is more to come,\u201d he hinted.\u00a0 \u201cWe are in discussions with a number of major players in the gasoline retail industry, as well as locations that see high levels of vehicular traffic.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Boots CEO, Wayne Boothe, said he was excited to be the first gasoline retailer to sign on to have an electric vehicle charging station at his operation.\u00a0 Speaking at the recent contract signing in the garden parish of St. Ann, he enthusiastically responded, \u201cHey! When innovation knocks, the place to find it is at Boot. We will be charging electric cars in the near and foreseeable future. Everything in one Boot!\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Meanwhile TOTAL Managing Director, Christopher Okonmah, expressed his pleasure in the development, \u2018We are happy to partner with The Jamaica Public Service Company on what we consider a pioneering and conscientious local initiative.
