{"id":29154,"date":"2021-01-07T11:10:43","date_gmt":"2021-01-07T15:10:43","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.carilec.org\/?p=29154"},"modified":"2021-01-07T11:25:29","modified_gmt":"2021-01-07T15:25:29","slug":"press-release-carilec-appoints-new-chairman-and-vice-chairman-amidst-the-retirement-of-mr-eddinton-powell","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/carilec.org\/press-release-carilec-appoints-new-chairman-and-vice-chairman-amidst-the-retirement-of-mr-eddinton-powell\/","title":{"rendered":"Press Release: CARILEC Appoints New Chairman and Vice Chairman Amidst the Retirement of Mr. Eddinton Powell"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>Castries, <em>St. Lucia<\/em>, January 7<sup>th<\/sup>, 2021: <\/strong>CARILEC\u2019s Board of Directors has recently appointed a new Chairman in the person of Mr. Leroy Abraham, General Manager of the British Virgin Islands Electricity Corporation (BVIEC).\u00a0 Mr. Abraham had previously served as the Board\u2019s Vice Chairman.\u00a0 This post has now been assumed by Mr. Roger Blackman, Managing Director of Barbados Light &amp; Power Limited (BL&amp;P).\u00a0 These hierarchical adjustments to the CARILEC Board of Directors were prompted by the retirement the Board\u2019s previous Chairman, Mr. Eddinton Powell, which took effect on December 31<sup>st<\/sup>, 2020.\u00a0 The Association\u2019s next Annual General Meeting (AGM) is scheduled for May 2021.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Mr. Eddinton Powell was elected as Chairman of CARILEC\u2019s Board of Directors on May 23<sup>rd<\/sup>, 2019, at the Association\u2019s (thirty-first) 31<sup>st<\/sup> AGM, held in St. Lucia.\u00a0 Mr. Powell succeeded Mr. Jeffrey Locke, then Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Belize Electricity Limited (BEL), as Chairman of the Board.\u00a0 He also served as CARILEC\u2019s Vice Chairman, Chairman of CARILEC\u2019s Audit and Risk Committee, and a member of the Executive Committee of the Board, during the 2016 to 2019 term.\u00a0 On the Utility front, Mr. Powell began his career in 1982, serving as the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) and Senior Vice President of the Caribbean Utilities Company Limited (CUC), during this last four (4) years with the Utility.\u00a0 Mr. Powell subsequently joined FortisTCI as President and CEO in 2007, serving in those roles for the past thirteen (13) years.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Needless to mention, Mr. Powell is regarded as a stalwart of the Caribbean energy community and the CARILEC Secretariat is honored to have had him serve as our Chairman.\u00a0 His contribution to the growth and development of the Secretariat and the Caribbean utility and energy sector at large, will transcend throughout the Association and the wider sector for decades to come.\u00a0 CARILEC\u2019s Board of Directors, management, staff, members, and partners all wish Mr. Powell a restful and enjoyable retirement.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">-End-<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">For further information, contact:<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Karen C.
