{"id":40667,"date":"2021-02-25T16:07:09","date_gmt":"2021-02-25T20:07:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.carilec.org\/?p=40667"},"modified":"2021-02-26T10:01:23","modified_gmt":"2021-02-26T14:01:23","slug":"press-release-carilec-partners-with-lucelec-in-hosting-the-2021-virtual-occuational-health-safety-seminar","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/carilec.org\/press-release-carilec-partners-with-lucelec-in-hosting-the-2021-virtual-occuational-health-safety-seminar\/","title":{"rendered":"Press Release &#8211; CARILEC Partners with LUCELEC in Hosting the 2021 Virtual Occupational Health and Safety Seminar"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><strong>Castries, <em>St. Lucia<\/em>, February 24<sup>th<\/sup>, 2021: <\/strong>The Caribbean Electric Utility Services Corporation (CARILEC) is pleased to partner with the St. Lucia Electricity Services Limited (LUCELEC) in hosting the first ever virtual Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) Seminar on March 1<sup>st<\/sup> &amp; 2<sup>nd<\/sup>, 2021.\u00a0 This year\u2019s seminar will highlight the celebration of LUCELEC\u2019s twenty-fifth (25<sup>th<\/sup>) anniversary of Health &amp; Safety, under the theme \u2018Twenty-five (25) years of Health and Safety: At the Heart of Work\u2019.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">The event will feature a joint opening ceremony in collaboration with LUCELEC, thought-provoking presentations from regional and international OHS experts and an informative panel discussion with elite utility leaders who will discuss the seminar\u2019s overarching theme, \u2018Safety Leadership = Safety Culture\u2019.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">The 2021 OHS Virtual Seminar is the first in a myriad of virtual events CARILEC has organised for its 2021 calendar of events.\u00a0 CARILEC has recognised the need to revamp and restructure its events to merge into the virtual realm, given the restrictions on air travel and social gatherings propelled by the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.\u00a0 The pandemic has also triggered utilities and energy-based organisations to review and upgrade their health and safety protocols, to manage its multiple implications.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">Amidst this renewed call for an examination of the importance of OHS procedures, CARILEC and LUCELEC have answered by developing a pertinent agenda, tailored to provide timely information on health and safety leadership practices that can be readily implemented to ensure individual and collective health.\u00a0 The agenda boasts of expert health, safety, and medical professionals including: Dr. Stephen King, former Chief Medical Officer (CMO) of St. Lucia and a renowned pathologist; Mr. Peter Williams, former Senior Vice President of Emera Caribbean Incorporated and Mr. Jon Hollohan, Director of Corporate Safety of Emera Incorporated, who will also serve as the seminar\u2019s distinguished keynote speaker.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">Ms. Sophia L Primus, CARILEC\u2019s Learning and Development Manager and Head of the CARILEC Health and Safety Committee expressed CARILEC\u2019s vision for the seminar.\u00a0 \u201cCARILEC remains committed to working with our members towards the development and strengthening of OHS procedures and protocols amidst the ongoing pandemic.\u00a0 Moreover, it is imperative that utility and organisational leadership places strategic importance on safety culture, thereby ensuring that employees embody such a culture throughout their daily tasks.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">For registration and more information on the 2021 OSH Virtual Seminar, visit the CARILEC OSH Seminar Event page at <a href=\"https:\/\/rb.gy\/sscehg\">https:\/\/rb.gy\/sscehg<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\">-End-<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">For further information, contact:<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">Karen C.
