The symposium will also be accompanied by a training workshop on \u2018<strong><em>Vegetation Management with GIS\u2019<\/em><\/strong>, to be held on <strong><em>November 16<sup>th<\/sup>, 2021<\/em><\/strong>. This workshop will be facilitated by a highly competent GIS Consultant, Mr. Dave Williams from TruInsights.\u00a0 Its main aim is to empower GIS field teams to leverage GIS in Vegetation Management.\u00a0 CARILEC is confident that this year\u2019s addition of a GIS training workshop will enable not only the sharing of best practices among regional GIS colleagues, but more importantly will facilitate the acquisition of useful GIS application skills and expertise to meet various organisational needs.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Key presentations featured in this year\u2019s event include \u2018GIS-driven Operations for a Resilient Electric Grid During a Pandemic\u2019 delivered by Dr. Shawn Charles, Chairman of the Board of Directors, Grenada Electricity Services Limited; \u2018Using GIS to Support Business Continuity\u2019, presented by Mr. Ian McKay, Consultant at the Environmental Systems Research Institute (ESRI); and \u2018Open-Source Enterprise GIS Tool\u2019, presented by Mr. Rhys Stewart, from the Jamaica Public Service Company (JPSCO).<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">CARILEC\u2019s Learning &amp; Development Manager, Ms. Sophia Primus, offered further insight into this year\u2019s GIS Symposium: \u201cThe pandemic has not in any way reduced the importance or use of GIS; for that matter, it has received increased attention as a tool to help manage utility decision-making, through interoperability and integration.\u00a0 Therefore, the theme <strong><em>\u2018Resilience. Sustainability. CARILEC was established in 1989 with nine (9) members as part of an electric Utilities modernization project funded by USAID and implemented by NRECA under a five-year &#8220;Co-operative Agreement.&#8221; Currently, CARILEC comprises over one hundred members.
