The technology group\u00a0W\u00e4rtsil\u00e4 has for the sixth year in a row been selected as an index component of the Dow Jones Sustainability Indices (DJSI), both in the DJSI World and DJSI Europe indices. The 2021 DJSI results were announced on 12 November 2021.<\/p>\n

Combatting climate change is a top priority both for us as a company and for our client industries. This recognition gives us additional boost to continue working towards carbon neutrality and our purpose of enabling sustainable societies,\u201d says Marko Vainikka, Vice President, Corporate Relations and Sustainability.<\/p>\n

Dow Jones Sustainability Indices highlight the sustainability performance of different industries\u2019\u00a0leading companies based\u00a0on\u00a0economic, environmental and social criteria. W\u00e4rtsil\u00e4 performed especially well in the fields of sustainability reporting, codes of business conduct,\u00a0strategy for emerging markets and innovation management. W\u00e4rtsil\u00e4 was assessed based on its 2020 performance.<\/p>\n

In addition to the Dow Jones Sustainability indices,\u00a0W\u00e4rtsil\u00e4 is included in FTSE4Good Index Series, Ethibel Sustainability Index (ESI) Excellence Europe, MSCI ACWI ESG Leaders Index, S&P Europe 350 ESG Index, ECPI ESG Indices, OMX GES Sustainability Finland Index and STOXX Global ESG Leaders Index.<\/p>\n

W\u00e4rtsil\u00e4 committed to carbon neutrality by 2030\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

In October\u00a02021,\u00a0W\u00e4rtsil\u00e4 announced its\u00a0\u201cSet for 30\u201d commitment<\/a>\u00a0to achieving ambitious climate targets. W\u00e4rtsil\u00e4\u2019s goal is by 2030 to become carbon neutral in its own operations, and\u202fto provide a product portfolio which will be ready for zero carbon fuels.<\/p>\n

The carbon neutrality target covers direct greenhouse gas emissions from the company\u2019s own operations, including the Research & Development and factory engine testing areas, as well as indirect greenhouse gas emissions from purchased electricity, heat, and cooling. This will be achieved by focusing on measures such as energy savings, green electricity purchases, switching fuels, the use of more efficient technologies, and the use of offsets for emissions hard to abate.<\/p>\n

As\u00a0W\u00e4rtsil\u00e4\u2019s aim is to support its customers on their decarbonisation journey, its goal is to have a product portfolio ready for zero carbon fuels by 2030. While the\u202fenergy and marine sectors still rely on the use of fossil fuels, W\u00e4rtsil\u00e4\u2019s current portfolio already enables its customers to switch to carbon neutral fuels, such as biofuels or synthetic methane. The transition from fossil fuels to carbon neutral or carbon free fuels will happen gradually, and W\u00e4rtsil\u00e4 enables this transition by providing the necessary technologies and expert services. In July 2021,\u202fW\u00e4rtsil\u00e4 launched a major\u202ftest programme towards carbon-free solutions<\/a>\u202fwith hydrogen and ammonia fuels.<\/p>\n
