(WPDE) \u2014\u00a0<\/span>The 2022 hurricane season is only one month away and with Hurricane Preparedness Week starting May 1 and ending May 7, it&#8217;s time to start getting hurricane kits and plans ready.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">In 2021, the season concluded with 21 named storms, including seven hurricanes of which four were major hurricanes,\u00a0<a class=\"themeColorForLinks\" title=\"https:\/\/www.noaa.gov\/news-release\/active-2021-atlantic-hurricane-season-officially-ends\" href=\"https:\/\/www.noaa.gov\/news-release\/active-2021-atlantic-hurricane-season-officially-ends\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">according to the National Ocean and Atmospheric Administration<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">NOAA said it was the third most active year on record in terms of named storms and marks the sixth consecutive above-normal season.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/abcnews4.com\/resources\/media\/f7c648b6-5e3b-40d5-b9a4-39498d2d58d4-medium16x9_GRAPHIC2021AtlanticHurricanenumbersNOAA113021.png?1651333280296\" alt=\"\" \/><\/p>\n<div class=\"index-module_storyEmbed__3Nct\" style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<div class=\"sd-embed-container\">\n<div class=\"sda-ImageEmbed\">\n<div class=\"sda-ImageEmbed-caption\"><em>2021 Atlantic Hurricane numbers (NOAA)<\/em><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">A\u00a0<a class=\"themeColorForLinks\" title=\"https:\/\/www.npr.org\/2022\/04\/07\/1091459296\/2022-hurricane-season\" href=\"https:\/\/www.npr.org\/2022\/04\/07\/1091459296\/2022-hurricane-season\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">prediction from scientists at Colorado State University<\/a>\u00a0says there will be at least 19 named storms and nine hurricanes in 2022. An average season normally has 14 named storms.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">To prepare, you should do three things: Create an evacuation plan, build an emergency kit and stay informed before hurricane season even starts.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>Here&#8217;s what you should include in your hurricane kit:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<li>One gallon of water per person per day<\/li>\n<li>Non-perishable foods (granola bars, crackers, peanut butter, etc.)<\/li>\n<li>Flashlights<\/li>\n<li>Cellphone chargers<\/li>\n<li>Important information (I.E. insurance cards)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">If you live in hurricane-prone areas, the NOAA encourages you to complete these simple preparations before hurricane season begins on June 1.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>The themes for Hurricane Preparedness Week include:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<li>Determine your risk<\/li>\n<li>Develop an Evacuation Plan<\/li>\n<li>Assemble disaster supplies<\/li>\n<li>Get an insurance checkup<\/li>\n<li>Strengthen your home<\/li>\n<li>Help your neighbor<\/li>\n<li>Complete a written plan<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Source: ABCNews4, 2022 (www.abcnews4.com)<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>CONWAY, S.C.
