The Government of the Commonwealth of Dominica is taking tangible steps in order to deal with the recent shortage of gasoline in the country. The measures include leasing new storage facilities at DCP as well as buying 10,000 barrels of\u00a0gasoline<\/a>\u00a0from none traditional sources.<\/p>\n

On Thursday, January 5, 2023, the nation welcomed two ships in port offloading gasoline supplies to Petro Caribe at the Jimmit, as well as the new storage facilities at DCP. This will ensure gasoline supplies to the island for the coming weeks. There are no foreseeable shortages of gasoline at this time.<\/p>\n

Last week, Minister for Trade and Energy of Dominica, Dr Vince Henderson, assured the general public that there was no gas\u00a0shortage<\/a>\u00a0on the island.<\/p>\n

Minister Henderson disclosed that the Petro Caribe facility\u2019s manager advised him that the country has enough gasoline in storage for the next many days. Dr Henderson added that he was not sure why people were standing in long lines and even spreading the word about the gasoline shortage in Dominica.<\/p>\n

He highlighted that the government\u2019s objective is to ensure that there is a reliable supply of gasoline at the\u00a0required<\/a>\u00a0quality available every time, not only in the storage tanks but also at the pumps. Additionally, he also disclosed that a shipment of gasoline would be arriving in Dominica on the 3rd or the 4th of January 2023 from the West Indies Oil Company.<\/p>\n

While making sure that there is enough supply of\u00a0gasoline<\/a>\u00a0in the Commonwealth of Dominica, Dr Vince Henderson said that the country is expecting two shipments of gasoline this week. By January 8, 2023, they expect 10,000 barrels of gasoline from Jamaica, and that was a special order placed by the office of the Prime Minister under the directives of PM Roosevelt Skerrit.<\/p>\n

Dr Henderson added that this is to make sure that the Dominica National Petroleum Company has enough supply of gasoline in storage in order to supply to distributors around the country.<\/p>\n
