{"id":78962,"date":"2023-02-13T15:59:47","date_gmt":"2023-02-13T19:59:47","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.carilec.org\/?p=78962"},"modified":"2023-02-13T15:59:47","modified_gmt":"2023-02-13T19:59:47","slug":"bahamian-start-up-partanna-partners-with-caribbean-climate-smart-accelerator-to-boost-climate-smart-construction","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/carilec.org\/bahamian-start-up-partanna-partners-with-caribbean-climate-smart-accelerator-to-boost-climate-smart-construction\/","title":{"rendered":"Bahamian start-up Partanna partners with Caribbean Climate-Smart Accelerator to boost climate-smart construction"},"content":{"rendered":"<ul>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\">The Caribbean business behind the world\u2019s first carbon-negative concrete has joined forces with an alliance aimed at scaling climate innovation throughout the region<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\">The agreement paves the way for the Caribbean to become a global leader in climate-smart infrastructure<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\">The announcement comes shortly after Partanna announced its deal with the Government of The Bahamas to develop the world\u2019s first carbon negative homes<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>25, January 2023, Nassau<\/strong> \u2013 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.partanna.com\/\"><strong>Partanna Bahamas<\/strong><\/a>, pioneer of the world\u2019s first carbon-negative concrete, has signed an MoU with the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.caribbeanaccelerator.org\/\"><strong>Caribbean Climate-Smart Accelerator<\/strong><\/a> (CCSA), an entity driving the Caribbean economy\u2019s transition into a climate-smart zone.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">As part of the agreement, both parties will highlight the growing economic and social costs of climate change to the region, and call on governments and the private sector to invest in climate-resilient infrastructure.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Partanna\u2019s carbon-negative concrete has the potential to revolutionise the global construction industry \u2013 which contributes around 40% of the world\u2019s annual <a href=\"https:\/\/ourworldindata.org\/co2-and-other-greenhouse-gas-emissions\">CO\u2082<\/a> emissions. The CCSA will help Partanna to realise its mission and potential by identifying public and private sector collaborators\u00a0 throughout the region.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The MoU is part of a drive by CCSA to champion Caribbean businesses who have the potential to create global impact through their climate innovations. The CCSA does this by matching entrepreneurs and businesses to its network of regional donors, investors, and philanthropists.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The agreement comes shortly after Partanna announced the development of up to 1000 affordable homes with the Government of the Bahamas, a move set to meet shortages and revolutionise affordable housing in a nation at the frontline of the climate crisis.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Paramount to the MoU is a commitment from both parties to make use of the region\u2019s young talent. It is hoped that increased use of Partanna within the Caribbean can spark a green jobs boom, in a region where <a href=\"https:\/\/www.oecs.org\/en\/oecs-yes-blog\/146-dark-cloud-of-youth-unemployment#:~:text=Nearly%201%20in%20every%204,20%25%20for%20young%20men.%E2%80%9D\">1 in 4 young people<\/a> are unemployed.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Partanna\u2019s housing development project will provide at least 1000 direct and indirect jobs for Bahamians over its duration. Partanna will also provide training in the new skill sets required to establish the Caribbean as a global centre of a new sustainable building materials industry.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>Rick Fox, former Los Angeles Lakers and founder of Partanna Global, commented: <\/strong>\u201cFor the Caribbean, adaption to climate change is a matter of survival.
