{"id":81858,"date":"2023-05-25T15:29:29","date_gmt":"2023-05-25T19:29:29","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.carilec.org\/?p=81858"},"modified":"2023-05-31T15:17:41","modified_gmt":"2023-05-31T19:17:41","slug":"aggreko-funds-500mw-community-solar-projects-on-us-farmland","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/carilec.org\/aggreko-funds-500mw-community-solar-projects-on-us-farmland\/","title":{"rendered":"Aggreko funds 500MW community solar projects on US farmland"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"td-post-author-name\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.powerengineeringint.com\/author\/pamelalargue\/\" data-feathr-click-track=\"true\" data-feathr-link-aids=\"[&quot;578902f68e802757a2b3a2a9&quot;]\">Pamela Largue<\/a>\u00a0 | May 24, 2023<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div id=\"attachment_81861\" style=\"width: 610px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-81861\" class=\"wp-image-81861\" src=\"https:\/\/www.carilec.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/05\/community-solar-on-US-farmland-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"450\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-81861\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Image: 123rf<\/p><\/div>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>Aggreko\u2019s Energy Transition Solutions division will become the capital partner for the Farmers Powering Communities community solar initiative.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Aggreko Energy Transition Solutions (ETS), a division of Aggreko formed last year, will provide capital to the partnership and will also own and operate several community solar assets.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The Farmers Powering Communities initiative is a collaborative effort between development firm Edelen Renewables; farmland preservation organisation,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/farmland.org\/whats-new\/press\/?category=17\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" data-feathr-click-track=\"true\" data-feathr-link-aids=\"[&quot;578902f68e802757a2b3a2a9&quot;]\">American Farmland Trust<\/a>\u00a0(AFT); and one the nation\u2019s largest subscribers of community solar power, Arcadia.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Through Farmers Powering Communities, Aggreko ETS will join the three firms in building out 500MW of community solar projects over the next ten years.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Prashanth Prakash, Aggreko ETS\u2019s chief commercial officer, said in a statement: \u201cExpanding access to community solar, which offers a cost-efficient way for people to use solar energy, aligns with our mission to accelerate the energy transition through clean energy infrastructure that delivers reliable, economic energy.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cWorking together, we are confident of our success in bringing the economic and environmental benefits of community solar to small-town America.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Ultimately, the $1 billion\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.powerengineeringint.com\/solar\/\" data-feathr-click-track=\"true\" data-feathr-link-aids=\"[&quot;578902f68e802757a2b3a2a9&quot;]\">solar<\/a>\u00a0project portfolio will allow solar energy production to be ramped up while farmlands and ranches are retained.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">John Piotti, AFT president, said: \u201cWe also know that farms can be part of the solution to the climate crisis. Farmland can draw carbon from the air to rebuild soil when farmed using climate-smart practices like cover crops and reduced tillage\u2026That\u2019s what this partnership is all about.
