{"id":82498,"date":"2023-07-05T09:50:16","date_gmt":"2023-07-05T13:50:16","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.carilec.org\/?p=82498"},"modified":"2023-07-05T09:50:16","modified_gmt":"2023-07-05T13:50:16","slug":"over-34000-customers-in-clarendon-benefitting-from-jps-substation-upgrade","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/carilec.org\/over-34000-customers-in-clarendon-benefitting-from-jps-substation-upgrade\/","title":{"rendered":"Over 34,000 Customers in Clarendon Benefitting from JPS Substation Upgrade"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-82501 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/www.carilec.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/07\/JPS100.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"195\" height=\"95\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span class=\"x_x_x_xxcontentpasted0\"><span class=\"x_ContentPasted0\"><strong>(Kingston, Jamaica: July 4, 2023)<\/strong>\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/span><span class=\"x_x_x_xxcontentpasted0\"><span class=\"x_ContentPasted0\">Over 34,000 JPS customers are now benefitting<\/span><\/span><span class=\"x_x_x_xxcontentpasted0\"><span class=\"x_ContentPasted0\">\u00a0<\/span><\/span><span class=\"x_x_x_xxcontentpasted0\"><span class=\"x_ContentPasted0\">from the recent expansion upgrade of the Parnassus Substation in Clarendon.\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"x_x_x_elementtoproof\" style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span class=\"x_x_x_xxcontentpasted0\"><span class=\"x_ContentPasted0\">According to Senior Vice President for Energy Delivery, Blaine Jarrett, the project was born out of the need to increase capacity, and will now allow more customers to be added to the network in the area, while resulting in greater service efficiencies for these customers.\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"x_x_x_elementtoproof\" style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span class=\"x_x_x_xxcontentpasted0\"><span class=\"x_ContentPasted0\">Mr.\u00a0<\/span><\/span><span class=\"x_x_x_xxcontentpasted0\"><span class=\"x_ContentPasted0\">Jarrett, explained that \u201cCapacity in the area has now more than doubled.\u00a0 The substation serves directly 13,000 customers from York Town, Mineral Heights, Halse Hall, Palmers Cross, Osbourne Store, Hayes and Clarendon Park and overall, a total of over 34,000 customers in the wider May Pen and Clarendon Service Area.\u00a0 The project was completed at a cost of US$2.25M or J$347.6M.\u201d\u00a0 \u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"x_x_x_elementtoproof\" style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span class=\"x_x_x_xxcontentpasted0\"><span class=\"x_ContentPasted0\">Additionally, the upgrade has other benefits,\u00a0<\/span><\/span><span class=\"x_x_x_xxcontentpasted0\"><span class=\"x_ContentPasted0\">by providing some level of back-up in the supply, improving the Company\u2019s\u00a0<\/span><\/span><span class=\"x_x_x_xxcontentpasted0\"><span class=\"x_ContentPasted0\">ability to conduct maintenance work, without requiring\u00a0<\/span><\/span><span class=\"x_x_x_xxcontentpasted0\"><span class=\"x_ContentPasted0\">the disruption of\u00a0<\/span><\/span><span class=\"x_x_x_xxcontentpasted0\"><span class=\"x_ContentPasted0\">service\u00a0<\/span><\/span><span class=\"x_x_x_xxcontentpasted0\"><span class=\"x_ContentPasted0\">to all customers<\/span><span class=\"x_ContentPasted0\">\u00a0<\/span><\/span><span class=\"x_x_x_xxcontentpasted0\"><span class=\"x_ContentPasted0\">to do so. Thus enhancing the reliability of service to these customers.\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"x_x_x_elementtoproof\" style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span class=\"x_x_x_xxcontentpasted0\"><span class=\"x_ContentPasted0\">In assessing the project, Transmission and Distribution Engineer and Project Manager, Liveen Harris, stated that despite the challenges which would have included working during the COVID-19 pandemic and its attendant issues, the project was completed within the scheduled two-years.\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"x_x_x_elementtoproof\" style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span class=\"x_x_x_xxcontentpasted0\"><span class=\"x_ContentPasted0\">The Parnassus Substation Expansion Project is part of a larger initiative to upgrade substations, and by extension, service islandwide.
