Castries, September 05, 2024 \u2013\u00a0<\/strong>\u201cExcellence\u201d is one of five St. Lucia Electricity Services Limited (LUCELEC) Core Values which include Caring, Integrity, Teamwork and Accountability. The spotlight was on Excellence when the Company held its annual Scholarship Ceremony & Social in August \u2013 a celebration of the students in its scholarship programme.<\/p>\n

This year\u2019s class was led by the Top Performing Tertiary Level Student Abbie Pultie who successfully completed her final year at the Sir Arthur Lewis Community College, and the Top Performing Secondary School student, for the second consecutive year, Aiden George. The Most Improved Student was K\u2019myah Charles.<\/p>\n

\u00a0The theme for the event was \u201cPowering the minds of future leaders\u201d.<\/p>\n

\u00a0Now in its 39th year \u2013 the LUCELEC scholarship programme is open to children of employees upon completion of the Caribbean Primary Exit Assessment (CPEA). The programme covers the cost of approved textbooks, uniforms and stationery allowance, school bags, school and facilities fees and one-time CSEC and CAPE exam fees.<\/p>\n

\u00a0Nine students were admitted to the programme this year \u2013 which now totals 34 members. LUCELEC Managing Director Gilroy Pultie says the exceptional exam scores of the freshman class speak to a team effort that includes parents steeped in the Company\u2019s commitment to Excellence as a Core Value.<\/p>\n

\u00a0\u201cExcellence sometimes, most times takes effort, effort by a lot of people \u2013 parents, friends, teachers. That is an indication of the quality of the people we have at LUCELEC as well as the values that we have as a company. We are passionate about excellence, and we try our best to do what we do to the highest standards and I\u2019m sure some of that has been transmitted to the students through their parents.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u00a0The scholarship scheme is Chaired by LUCELEC Human Resource Services Lead Amy Henry-Demille. She challenged the students to make a positive impact in the world.<\/p>\n

\u00a0\u201cI want to remind you that education is not just acquiring knowledge, it is about shaping your future and making a positive impact in the world. As you continue your educational journey, remember that each of you has the potential to achieve greatness. Embrace every opportunity, strive for excellence and never underestimate the power of your dreams.\u201d<\/p>\n

Chelsa Jongue was the event\u2019s Featured Speaker. A one-time LUCELEC employee, Ms. Jongue, is now the Assistant Manager, Member Services (Communications and Marketing)\u00a0at CARILEC. The self-described \u2018scholarship kid\u2019 \u2013 who had been working hard to maintain scholarships since she was 10 \u2013 Ms. Jongue encouraged the students to be curious, find their \u201cthing\u201d and be proud of what they had accomplished thus far and keep striving for more.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere will be challenges along the way and believe me when I say these challenges are meant to define you and not to end you. So, the good thing about getting through the worst days of your life is knowing that tomorrow will be better. We reset and we refocus \u2013 embrace the challenges, seize the opportunities and continue to strive for excellence in all that you do. Remember you\u2019re not alone in this journey, you have the support of your family, your teachers, your community and they all believe in you, so you need to lean on them when you need to and to not be afraid to ask for help.\u201d<\/p>\n

Students must maintain a 65% average in each subject and an overall average of 70% to retain the LUCELEC scholarship. The 2024\/2025 LUCELEC Scholarship Class is comprised of 27 secondary school and 7 tertiary level students.<\/p>\n
