{"id":87784,"date":"2024-12-04T14:36:21","date_gmt":"2024-12-04T18:36:21","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/carilec.org\/?p=87784"},"modified":"2024-12-04T14:39:32","modified_gmt":"2024-12-04T18:39:32","slug":"press-release-st-vincent-and-the-grenadines-to-accelerate-climate-action-with-new-usd-3-million-gcf-project","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/carilec.org\/press-release-st-vincent-and-the-grenadines-to-accelerate-climate-action-with-new-usd-3-million-gcf-project\/","title":{"rendered":"Press Release: St. Vincent and the Grenadines to Accelerate Climate Action with New USD 3 Million GCF Project"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>November 29, 2024 | CCCCCPress Release 20<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The Caribbean Community Climate Change Centre (CCCCC) in collaboration with the Government of Saint Vincent and the Grenadines (GoSVG) has launched a $3 Million USD project to fast-track climate action.\u00a0 The launch took place on November 26<sup>th<\/sup>, 2024, in the presence of key national stakeholders from sectors such as agriculture, tourism, fisheries, forestry, economic development, environment conservation, met services and others.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Addressing the event was Mr. Earl Green, Project Manager at the CCCCC who emphasised the importance of the project towards strengthening SVG\u2019s capacity to implement actions that improve climate adaptation.\u00a0 Mr. Green further acknowledged that, despite the myriad of ongoing activities and the constant pressures from recurring climate events, the success of the project hinges critically on active national participation. \u201cIt is expected that this will allow SVG to implement its Long-Term Readiness Action Plan to enhance its national capacity to effectively respond and address the impacts of climate change in a strategic, consultative, participatory, and comprehensive manner with national stakeholders to ensure country buy-in and country ownership\u201d, he articulated.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The project is funded by the Green Climate Fund (GCF) and will span a 3-year period, from 2024 \u2013 2027.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Ms. Giselle Myers, Senior Economist in the Ministry of Economic Development, explained that SVG has been receiving financial support from the GCF through the CCCCC since 2017. The new project increases the total economic value of GCF climate related contributions to USD 8 million. \u201cSupport to Saint Vincent and the Grenadines (SVG) by the Green Climate Fund (GCF) continues towards its path of increasing climate resiliency. The full commitment of the NDA and key stakeholders play crucial roles in the execution of the activities and also to strengthen policies for effective delivery of the programme and or projects,\u201d she stated.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Reflecting on the numerous natural disasters that have battered Saint Vincent and the Grenadines over the past decade, Meyers lamented the relentless and pervasive nature of climate impacts, which affect every sector. \u00a0These events she said, \u201cdepict clearly the urgency for St Vincent and the Grenadines to mobilise climate financing that will support projects to position the country to strengthen adaptation and mitigation efforts and decrease potential devastation\u201d.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">She urged stakeholders of their role in delivering this readiness Project, the 6<sup>th<\/sup>\u00a0of its kind.\u00a0 While thanking Mr Ahnivar Peralta, Project Development Specialist at the CCCCC, she said, \u201cWe are pleased to once again collaborate with the CCCCC as a delivery partner.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The CCCCC along with the Economic Planning Division of the Ministry of Finance, Economic Planning, and Information Technology will execute the project on behalf of the people and government of St Vincent and the Grenadines.\u00a0 By the project\u2019s conclusion, the institutional, technical and climate finance needs of the Member State are expected to be strengthened, ensuring a more resilient and sustainable future.<\/p>\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center\" style=\"text-align: justify;\">-END \u2013<\/p>\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\" \/>\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center\" style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong><em>About the Caribbean Community Climate Change Centre (CCCCC).\u00a0<\/em><\/strong><em>\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong><em>The Caribbean Community Climate Change Centre\u00a0<\/em><\/strong><em>is an intergovernmental organisation established by the Heads of Governments of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) to coordinate the region\u2019s response to managing and adapting to climate change.
