Energy Company JPS, in partnership with JUTA Tours, has stepped in to assist with the transportation of health workers to and from 4 major hospitals in the South East Regional Health area, for the next 6 weeks. JPS\u2019 (early) donation of $1M, will now cover the expenses associated with transportation (fuel, maintenance and provision of drivers), while JUTA has provided four buses.\u00a0 The health workers will be transported to and from the Princess Margaret Hospital in St. Thomas, the Spanish Town Hospital in St. Catherine, and the Bustamante Hospital for Children and the Kingston Public Hospital in the capital city.<\/p>\n

Speaking at the official handing over of the buses in a ceremony at Jamaica House today (Wednesday, April 8), JPS Senior Vice President of Customer Services, Ramsay McDonald, indicated that, as an essential service provider and partner in Jamaica\u2019s social and economic development, JPS feels that it has a responsibility to be part of the national response to the COVID-19 crisis.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe appreciate that as a company that serves this country, we must play an integral role in the social welfare of our brothers and sisters. COVID-19 has called on us to do much more than provide consistent power supply. We are partnering with the Ministry of Health and Wellness on a number of initiatives. In addition to assisting with transportation for health workers, JPS will be facilitating the provision of COVID-19 testing kits to the Government. Our shareholder, Korea East West Power (EWP) will be providing testing kits to the value of approximately J$35Million to the Government of Jamaica. These testing kits will be in the island later this month,\u201d he indicated.<\/p>\n

JPS was one of the first companies to pledge financial support for the Government\u2019s fight against COVID-19.<\/p>\n
