Job Title: Legal Officer

Duty Station: NURC Secretariat, Castries

Reports to: Chief Executive Officer

 

Job Summary

· Works under the Chief Executive Officer to provide legal advice regarding the operations, rights and responsibilities of the Commission, its management and staff.

· Ensures that the NURC operates in accordance with the relevant legislation and regulations.

· Advises and coordinates all evidence for the NURC in all inquiries, disputes etc.

· Ensures compliance by regulated entities of licence conditions, relevant legislation and regulations.

· Monitors and evaluates all licences for compliance with the Legislation and licence conditions.

 

Skills, Knowledge and Abilities

· A working knowledge and understanding of and demonstrated ability to ensure full compliance with the provisions of the licences, NURC Act, sector legislations, regulations, protocols, policies and standard operating procedures;

· Ability to use independent judgement and initiative, and develop creative and practical solutions to complex and difficult legal issues;

· Articulate and persuasive in oral communication, good writing style, sound judgement;

· Excellent interpersonal and communication skills;

· Ability to plan, organize and perform duties with minimum supervision

 

Qualifications and Experience

· A Bachelor of Law Degree plus a certificate in Legal Education

· At least five (5) years of experience as a practicing Attorney. Experience in utility practices and regulations would be an asset.

· Knowledge of the principles of alternative dispute resolution and utility operations management

 

 

Compensation

Remuneration will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
