The list of documentation required for application processing are as follows:

  1. The Completed Application Form
  2. Three reference letters.
    • Reference letter from the bank your company conducts business with
    • Reference letter from a longstanding Business associate/Customer
    • Recommendation from a CARILEC member
  3. A copy of your Business Incorporation certificate
  4. A copy of your company’s Income Statement
  5. A non-refundable processing fee of US$250

All applications are referred to the Board of Directors for approval via round robin or at the earliest meeting of the Board of Directors.

Utility Members

The Utility Member category is reserved for electric utilities in the Caribbean or Integrated Utilities offering generation, transmission and distribution generation services only, Transmission and Distribution (T&D) services only, or a combination of water, electricity and telecommunication services.

In addition to the member benefits listed below, CARILEC will provide Utility Members assistance with:

  • Research & development of Legislation, Regulation & Energy Policy
  • Lobbying regional Government for sector reform
  • Implementing energy projects in collaboration with international agencies

Through its conferences and events, CARILEC will create opportunities for networking with government representatives, regulators, suppliers, energy sector professionals, and fellow members. CARILEC will also provide regular updates on what is happening in the Caribbean energy industry: new projects, the needs of utilities and other operators in the industry, regional regulations and rate regimes and changes. As a member, you will also receive news on RFP’s. Establish connections with industry professionals and participate in discussion forums. Contribute to and receive data that can expand regional utility technical studies and develop utility operations. Compile statistical highlights on the energy industry, including capacity, transmission, generation, fuel mix, emission reductions, sales, and more.

Provide key financial data on the shareholder-owned electricity industry, including an annual financial review. The review provides a complete view of the industry’s financial performance and business activities.

ADVOCACY

Organize or participate in strategic forums that build industry awareness and move public support for issues that are important to our members.

CARILEC has developed numerous training programs and workshops for its members and their customers. As a member of CARILEC, Utility members can also request specialized training programs and agendas facilitated by CARILEC. We arrange high-quality accreditation and certification engineering, technician, administrative and managerial training programmes. Contribute to the development of training agendas. Members who are registered to attend events will also receive a full copy of Training participants with contact information and presentations.

CONFERENCES

Participate at a reduced rate in CARILEC conferences. Benefit from shared utility updates on projects in the energy sector. Members who are registered to attend events will also receive a full copy of Conference participants with contact information and presentations.

CARILEC DISASTER ASSISTANCE PROGRAM (CDAP)

As a utility member, you can opt to participate in CDAP a well-coordinated restoration programme and receive assistance in the case of disaster.

Attend CARILEC’s Annual General Meeting. Each member will have one vote. Elections are held annually, and members participate in the selection of members for CARILEC’s Board of Directors.

CARILEC RESILIENT ENERGY COMMUNITY (CAREC)

Gain access to CAREC, a platform for energy professionals and organizations working together to strengthen capacity and achieve business goals in the electric power industry. The CAREC platform is designed to give energy professionals an opportunity to share information, case studies, best practices, and more.

IPP Members

Independent Power Producers (IPP) is an entity, which is not a public utility, but which owns facilities to generate electric power for sale to utilities and end users. IPPs may be privately held facilities, corporations, cooperatives such as rural solar or wind energy producers, and non-energy industrial concerns capable of feeding excess energy into the system.

To qualify for IPP membership, Companies must meet the following requirements:

  • Must supply to the grid or own the grid in the country or island in which they conduct business
  • If the utility is a generating company, its contribution to the grid must be at least 10% of the energy used in the jurisdiction.
  • Either generation or sale to the grid or management and control of the grid must be the core business of the organization
  • The IPP must be operating in a CARILEC full utility member country
  • The IPP must have a long term PPA with a CARILEC Full Member (Propose => 10 years)

Individual Members

CARILEC has four (4) classes of individual members; Student, Academic, Independent Consultant/Practitioner, and Honorary Lifetime member.

Student Membership

The student class of the individual category of membership is reserved for under-graduate and post-graduate students actively enrolled in a University, College, or a Professional Academic Institution.

Qualifying Students

  • Undergraduates
  • Postgraduates
  • Student enrolled and undertaking studies with Professional Institutions (such as, Australian Institute of Business, Associate of Business Executives, Etc.)

All student applicants must present an enrollment letter from a licensed educational institution. A non-refundable application fee of US$25 must be paid upon applying.

Independent Consultants / Industry Practitioners

The Consultant/Industry Practitioner category of membership is reserved for independent consultants, freelancers, and professional energy solutions practitioners. Existing CARILEC members are not eligible for transfer to this membership category.

The completed application form, with a Reference letter from a Business Associate/Customer, and a non-refundable processing fee of US$100 must accompany your application.

It should be noted that the intention, and related benefits, associated with this category are primarily related to knowledge sharing and capacity building as opposed to full business development opportunities and networking privileges which are granted under the  Associate and Affiliate Membership categories.

Annual Membership Fee – US$399

Academic Membership

The Academic category of membership is reserved for university and college lecturers, and adjunct lecturers & researchers.

The completed application form, a reference letter from your institution and a non-refundable processing fee of US$40 must accompany your application.

Annual Membership Fee – US$150

Honorary Lifetime Membership

The Honorary class of individual membership is reserved for senior industry personnel such as, Ex-Chief Executive Officers, General Managers, Presidents and Managing Directors of Utility, Associate or Affiliate Members, CARILEC Chairmen and Directors, CARILEC Executive Directors, and CEOs of Regional and International Associations and Not-for-profit organizations.

This category of membership is an honor presented after review and recommendation by CARILEC’s Board of Directors. This membership category carries no processing fee.
