fill the position of Corporate Communications Manager.
The Corporate Communications Manager will be accountable to the Business Development Manager with the primary responsibility to lead and manage the Company’s internal and external communication needs, media relations, crisis communication, public relations, government and other stakeholder relations via a comprehensive multi-channel network, to build and maintain a credible reputation and corporate image; to manage the Company’s sponsorships and donations and oversee the Employee Volunteer Programme to enable the Company to create a positive impact in the community, environment and society.
Some of the primary responsibilities of this role include but will not be limited to:
- Lead and manage the work programme of the Corporate Communication Department through effective performance management, target setting, coaching, mentoring, motivating and disciplining staff to drive productivity for the achievement of set priorities and to ensure compliance with Company policies and regulatory requirements;
- Identify and/or design training and learning programmes for the Corporate Communication Team through research, networking or developing growth strategies, to secure opportunities for continuous learning and to build an effective and highly motivated team;
- Collaborate with senior management to develop and deploy integrated and impactful communication strategies internally and externally and across operations and service groups, to support and grow the LUCELEC brand;
- Lead, develop, and deliver comprehensive public relations and thought-leadership strategies using a variety of methods, channels and technologies to raise the profile of the Company and to cultivate positive relationships with key influencers and the media;
- Monitor media broadcasts and other feedback channels and oversees the Company’s website and social media presence, to gain insight into the media, customers and clients’ view of the Company and to devise strategies to address misinformation and respond to posts as necessary and requests for information;
- Extend the impact and effectiveness of the Company’s website by managing web development providers to ensure content and design is optimized to support the LUCELEC brand and business strategy;
- Create and/or commission marketing and public awareness campaigns to promote the Company’s services and impact, and to facilitate effective engagement with key customers, clients and other stakeholders;
- Create communication and change management programmes in line with the Company’s strategic plan to support its’ mission, vision, values and strategy;
- Develop and maintain an effective crisis communication plan, in collaboration with senior management to enable prompt and confident responses to crises, to ensure the information presented is clear, accurate and informative and to safeguard the reputation of the Company;
- Implement the practice of safe work habits, by enforcing the Company’s safety and health policy and promoting a culture of safety, among others, to prevent/reduce workplace incidents, accidents or injuries;
- Update the Business Development Manager on operational matters by providing briefings as necessary, and submitting monthly reports to enable timely responses to issues and the implementation of improvement measures;
- Drive the timely and effective implementation of audit recommendations through the development of effective strategies to minimize risk to the successful delivery of relevant outcomes;
- Assist with the formulation of the Company’s strategic plan through analysis of industrial trends and critical evaluation of the department’s performance to determine the way forward to achieve the vision of the organization;
- Collaborate with the HR Department in the development and implementation of the organizational structure, workforce and succession plans to determine the staff necessary for the department to fulfil its mandate;
- Contribute to the effectiveness of the Company’s Enterprise Risk Management framework, by identifying, analysing, monitoring and reporting risks and developing strategies to responds to risks associated with the corporate communication function;
- Foster a cross Company approach to work by cultivating cooperative, trust-based relationships to ensure the sharing of information, address and overcome conflict/challenges, coordinate the implementation of new processes or technology and to instill a culture of team work;
- Monitor operations/programmes of the department through regular business process reviews to ascertain whether results are consistent with established objectives and are executed as planned;
- Prepare, administer, monitor and control the annual budget for the Corporate Communication Department, in collaboration with the Business Development Manager and the Finance and Accounts Department, to ensure the achievement of goals and objectives, assess departmental performance and for decision making;
- Promote teamwork and collaboration through regular staff meeting and employee engagement initiatives to create a sense of inclusion among employees, keep them updated on critical Company and departmental issues and to ensure the achievement of Company goals and objectives;
- Prepare status reports, outlining achievements and challenges to keep senior management informed, to facilitate assessment of the Department’s performance, decision making and to contribute to and oversee the production of the Company’s Annual Report;
- Remain current with developments in the field of Communication Management by participating in educational opportunities, reading professional publications, networking, among others, to aid in the development of innovative approaches and techniques for performing the corporate communications management function;
- Performs any other job-related duties as may be assigned.
The ideal candidate must possess:
Education and Experience
- Master’s Degree in Journalism, Marketing, Public Relations, Mass Communications or related field plus eight (8) years’ related experience of which at least two (2) years’ must be management experience in a senior role; OR
- Bachelor’s Degree in Journalism, Marketing, Public Relations, Mass Communications or related field plus ten (10) years’ related experience of which at least five (5) years’ must be management experience in a senior role; OR
- Professional Accreditation or Certification in Communication, Public Relations or related field from an internationally recognized professional body plus ten (10) years’ related experience of which at least five (5) years’ must be management experience in a senior role.
Knowledge and Skills:
- Comprehensive knowledge of corporate communication management, change management and change communication, communication research and analysis, communication strategy and engagement, communication measurement and strategy implementation;
- Sound knowledge of and ability to interpret Company policies and standard operating procedures, Collective Agreements, the Labour Act, Trust Deed and Pension Rules for LUCELEC Staff, the National Insurance Corporation (NIC) Act and Regulations, Electricity Supply Act, National Energy Policy, National Utilities Regulation Commission (NURC) Act, Commercial Code and relevant Securities Acts and Stock Exchange Regulations;
- Extensive knowledge of laws, regulations and practices pertaining to copyright, plagiarism, confidentiality, privacy and disclosure;
- Broad job knowledge and/or technical expertise relevant to the job, and ability to provide sound advice;
- Extensive knowledge and expertise in media relations, marketing communication, employee internal relations, executive communication, community relations, government relations, investor relations, customer relations, client relations, crisis communication, corporate social responsibility, and advocacy relations;
- Sound editing, presentations, visual communication, communication planning research and measurement, and audience analysis skills, cultural literacy and diversity;
- Strong business acumen and ethics sensitivity, business process and control assessment skills;
- Excellent people and stress management skills;
- Excellent critical thinking, analytical, problem-solving, conflict management and decision-making skills, and ability to manage time in a fast-paced environment, meet deadlines and remain calm under pressure;
- Strong leadership and management skills and ability to inspire and motivate staff;
- Excellent team player with effective interpersonal skills and a high level of emotional intelligence;
- Advanced knowledge of the principles, tools and techniques of Project Management;
- Strong computer literacy skills; ability to manipulate software applications such as word processing, spreadsheets, databases and presentation programmes;
- Ability to effectively exchange information, that is, oral and written communication, feedback, facilitation, active listening and diplomacy;
- Intellectually agile, creative, visionary, innovative, flexible, adaptable and capable of translating ideas into policies;
- Strong organizational, change management, research and negotiation skills;
- Ability to integrate Company core values throughout all business practices;
- Ability to effectively develop and maintain relationships with management, staff, and stakeholders at all levels.
