Health, Safety & Environment (HSE) Advisor
The Barbados Light & Power Company Limited is seeking applications from suitably qualified professionals to fill the position of Health, Safety & Environment (HSE) Advisor. The position is looking for a lead to provide high level HSE technical and functional expertise to advise and support the effective implementation, oversight and compliance of Corporate HSE programme. The successful candidate will have responsibility for:
Overseeing the development, administration and maintenance of the BLPC Safety Management Systems (SMS) and Environmental Management System (EMS,) in alignment with Corporate driven policies and programmes to ensure compliance.
Implementation of Corporate specific programmes in Risk Management, Emergency Preparedness and Response, Contractor Safety, Incident Management, Safety Auditing and Compliance, HSE reporting and Performance Management, Safety Training and Awareness.
Advising the Manager HSE on the evaluation of HSE programmes, providing recommendations for strategic direction and continuous improvement strategies in line with business goals.
Collating data and managing the process for providing comprehensive strategic advice and recommendations on trends, emerging risks, and performance improvement.
Leading the coordination and execution of internal and external HSE audit programmes and provides support to audit teams.
Leading and supporting the Incident Reporting & Investigation process, including participation in Root Cause Analysis, along with the development and oversight of corrective action plans.
Overseeing the administration of a robust Contractor Safety Management Programme, including inspections, audits training and awareness sessions.
Leading as a role model for HSE, encouraging a strong proactive and “speak up speak out” culture
Qualifications and Experience:
Our ideal candidate should have
First Degree in Occupational Safety Management, Environmental Science or related field.
National Examination Board of Safety and Health (NEBOSH) / Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) certification.
Experience working with safety, environment and quality management system standards (e.g. ISO 45001 & 14001)
Should be trained to audit Quality, Safety and Environmental Management Systems.
Professional certification (CSP/IOSH) or other suitable certification would be an asset.
Five (5) years’ relevant experience together with practical on the job/supervisory experience is usually required for acceptable proficiency.
Equivalent combination of work experience and education will be considered.
