The People and Culture Lead will help shape team culture and serve as a thought partner with Pelican Energy TCI Leaders as the company attracts, develops and retains employees. The role supports employee growth and skill development; while helping to create an engaging and dynamic environment where people connect with purpose.
Main Duties & Responsibilities
- Collaborate and support people initiatives by understanding the organization’s objectives, culture, issues, needs, and key success factors.
- Coordinate recruitment and onboarding efforts to ensure that the company is effectively and efficiently sourcing and selecting the best candidates; to ensure full level of engagement and long-term success of new staff members.
- Coordinate the planning and delivery of new employee orientation to educate new hires on organizational objectives.
- Manage the employee’s benefits package and periodic reports to include the company’s Medical insurance, Employee Saving Plan, NIB, new employees enrollment, departures and other benefits new or existing.
- Manage employee Rewards & Recognition platforms and programs.
- Champion and coordinate the planning and execution of employee engagement events, recognition days, and cultural celebrations etc.
- Assist with the development of the People & Culture annual budget and review monthly performance for variances.
- Assist with the creation of and lead the Annual Employee Engagement Plan.
- Create tools, materials, and procedures to assist the Company’s leaders with organizational effectiveness strategies and initiatives (e.g. surveys, communications, training material, presentations, etc.).
- Utilize organizational assessments and surveys to understand employee engagement, monitor the culture, create and implement appropriate action plans based on survey reports and recommendations.
- Spearhead the integration of diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) principles into Company’s initiatives.
- Build strong relationships and engage in high-level interaction with employees throughout the organization.
- Ensure Company awareness of governance issues and develop and maintain best practices as it relates to key policies.
- Assist in the formulation and communication of HR policies, processes and programs ensuring consistency with the Organization’s vision, mission and core values and foster a high level of psychological safety, trust and engagement.
- Recommend and support employee relations strategies and practices necessary to promote a high level of morale and motivation.
- Provide assistance to the Director of People and Culture and Director of Learning and Organizational Development on a full range of employee relations matters.
- Provide project management support for people initiatives.
- Support talent acquisition strategies by developing a clear understanding of departmental recruitment plans and supporting the recruitment and onboarding processes (company and departmental).
- Support learning and development in the performance management processes with documenting employee skill gaps or behavioral patterns, recommending training or developmental opportunities, and creating performance plans.
- Collaborate with managers on performance and interpersonal issues and advise on appropriate strategies for personal and professional improvement.
- Assist with identifying and addressing critical organizational and people issues in order to assess impact and remove any barriers impeding success.
- Provide support to the HR Team with data and trend analysis, research, interpretation, and formulating resolutions.
- Arrange or provide counseling support through the Thrive Employee Assistance Program, to the staff as needed.
- Assist in the review, management and resolution of complex employee relations matters including employee grievances.
- Assist with the preparation of employee separation notices and related documentation, and conduct exit interviews.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Academic/Technical/Management Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in the field of Human Resources Management, Psychology or related field.
- MBA or related Master’s degree and/or Human Resource certification is preferred.
- Five or more years’ experience in human resources.

- Strong Knowledge of employment law.
- Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate with and relate well to all levels of employees
- Strong communication skills
- Strong listening skills and ability to understand, counsel, and advise on the grievances of the employees, either personal or professional
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities and can implement innovative plans for employee welfare
