Pelican Energy TCI invites applications from interested and suitably qualified individuals for the position of Supervisor of Plant Control – Grand Turk, Providenciales.
Description
Responsible for detailed supervision of subordinate employees and contractors, who perform installation and maintenance work at Grand Turk’s generating facilities; and to provide expert decision-making and hands on assistance in the operation, trouble shooting and maintenance of large generation units including Caterpillar Diesel Generator sets, high voltage equipment and electrical control systems in the power plant.
As a member of the management team, the Supervisor Plant Control must understand and commit to the corporate vision, and successfully gain the support of subordinate employees for that vision.
Main Duties & Responsibilities
- Prepare weekly, monthly and annual work plans and associated reports as directed by the Manager of Grand Turk operations
- Maintain and ensure the accuracy of statistical records of plant operations and maintenance activities as required by the company.
- Responsible for the safe delivery of diesel fuel to the power plant storage tanks from the delivery barge, to prevent environmental spills.
- Ensure a high degree of familiarity and profound knowledge of specifications, fundamental operating concepts and operating and maintenance manuals and procedures for all plant assets and equipment.
- Prepare work instructions for and supervise the day-to-day work of the plant specialists with particular regard to safety, efficiency and functionality of the plant.
- Prepare layout diagrams and work orders for larger projects as may be assigned and directed.
- Prepare cost estimates and material lists for various projects as assigned.
- Conduct testing and troubleshooting of plant equipment in area of responsibility and in the longer-term train others to perform these functions.
- Plan and conduct work in a manner consistent with the company’s commitment to the environment and ensure that subordinate employees are likewise in compliance.
- Assist in hiring, supervising and mentoring a knowledgeable and motivated plant work force
- Assist the Operations Manager in identifying training requirements and annual training plans and responsible for training and mentoring of the work force.
- Assist in the preparation of capital and maintenance budgets by the preparation of cost estimates for the electrical section as assigned and directed.
- Be familiar with, and adhere to, all Company policies and procedures (including those established by past practice) relating to the position and to observe and enforce compliance of subordinate employees to these policies and procedures including the safety and operating procedures of the company.
- Provide calm and competent leadership in response to plant emergencies in a manner that inspires others to do likewise.
- Perform other related duties as may be assigned and /or required by Plant Operations contingencies from time to time
Duties
- Prepare weekly, monthly and annual work plans and accomplishment reports.
- Submit job reports and detailed engineering equipment failure analysis reports
- Responsible for the reporting of all power outages on the system to the Operations Manager of Grand Turk Operations
- Execute preventative and corrective maintenance to ensure high equipment availability.
- Oversee the proper documentation of all materials leaving storage room and to ensure that supplies are maintained within acceptable minimum stock levels. This applies to but is not limited to; Gasoline for the vehicles, Diesel fuel, Lube oil & Coolant for the generators, Water for Plant usage, Stationery and all other supplies necessary for the Generation system
- Ensure that the power plant and transportation fleet is kept and maintained in a state of preparedness generally, and for the onset of the annual Hurricane Season
Academic/Technical/Management Experience
- A minimum of five (5) years’ experience at senior management level
- Technical certification in the trades with an emphasis on electrical technical skills.
- Extensive experience in the operation, trouble shooting and maintenance of large generation units including Caterpillar Diesel Generator sets
- At least 10years experience in Utility Industry in power systems application.
- Proficiency in production and interpretation of electrical and mechanical drawings is required.
Abilities, Skills, Experience, Aptitude & Judgement
- Above average analytical skills in math and electrical theories
- Excellence in interpretation of engineering drawings and manuals
- Professional competency in written and oral communication skills in English
- Good manpower management and communication skills.
- Experience in working under utility emergency response condition
- Ability to function effectively under emergency situations, think clearly and deliver within deadlines.
- Self-motivated, solution oriented and positive in outlook
- Team player
