VACANCY NOTICE
An opportunity exists within the Office of Strategy Management to fill the position of Project Management Specialist.
Job Summary
The Project Management Specialist will be primarily responsible for providing project management expertise to ensure all strategic initiatives are in direct support of strategic objectives, well planned, managed and tracked until complete; supporting strategy performance analysis and reporting, and facilitating the translation of organization, division and department strategies into strategy maps and balanced scorecards.
Essential Duties:
- Assists with the review and development of detailed project plans by providing project management expertise to support initiatives designed to advance the Company’s strategic objectives;
- Assists with the formulation of the Company’s strategic plan by conducting environmental scans/external analysis and making recommendations based on emerging trends, expansion opportunities, competitive threats to determine the way forward;
- Supports the implementation of the strategy by working collaboratively with Strategic Objectives Sponsors, Initiative Managers, and heads of departments, to monitor and evaluate implementation of project plans, and ensure effective performance analysis and reporting on strategy;
- Leads cross functional projects, as necessary, taking on the role and responsibilities of project manager ;
- Promotes the use of measurement and evaluation of project implementation with a focus on the creation of organizational dashboards to enable ease of access, at-a-glance, mission critical information for more informed decision-making;
- Provides support for strategy governance by overseeing the life cycle processes for strategic initiatives from ideation to closure, and supporting Initiative Portfolio Board and Strategy Review Meetings, as necessary, to facilitate dynamic management of the strategy;
- Collaborates with the various departments to collect business data relating to the strategy execution process, via survey and other means; conducts analysis and prepares reports to enable performance assessment and to facilitate timely and informed decision-making;
- Prepares status reports on strategy development and execution, outlining achievements and challenges to keep the SMSEI informed, to facilitate assessment of the Department’s performance, decision making and to contribute to monthly, quarterly and annual reports;
- Contributes to the effectiveness of the Company’s Enterprise Risk Management framework, by identifying, analysing, reporting and monitoring risks and developing strategies to responds to risks associated with initiatives and the strategy development and implementation function;
- Reviews the Company’s project management policies and procedures to ensure they remain current with best practice.
- Ensures strategic initiatives are designed and implemented in accordance with the Company’s project management policies and procedures, and where necessary makes recommendations for ensuring or improving alignment with the project management policies and procedures;
- Remains current in the knowledge of strategy development, project management and change management practices by participating in educational opportunities, reading professional publications, networking, among others, to aid in the formulation of effective strategies and management solutions and initiatives;
- Performs any other job-related duties as may be assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
- A Bachelors’ Degree in Business Management, Strategic Management, Project Management or a related field of study
- Plus five (5) years of relevant project management and business analyst work experience.
- Work experience in a mid-level managerial role is also desirable.
- PMP, PgMP, PRINCE2, PROSCI, Kotter, ADKAR, and/or comparable project management certification would be an asset.
KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS
- Comprehensive knowledge of Business Analysis and Project Management principles, practices and methods;
- Sound knowledge of and ability to interpret Company policies and standard operating procedures, Collective Agreements, the Labour Act, Trust Deed and Pension Rules for LUCELEC Staff, the National Insurance Corporation (NIC) Act and Regulations, Electricity Supply Act, National Energy Policy, National Utilities Regulation Commission (NURC) Act, Commercial Code and relevant Securities Acts and Stock Exchange Regulations;
- Broad job knowledge and/or technical expertise relevant to the job, and the ability to provide sound advice;
- Ability to design, analyse and effectively use systems, components and methods within a framework of quality and continuous improvement;
- Advanced skills/knowledge/experience in Excel, Power Query and other data analytics tools and presentation software;
- Ability to visualize data to identify trends and patterns to help identify which strategies are working effectively and which need to be revised;
- Sound database proficiency skills. Be able to determine the best ways to organize and present information.
- Sound organizational and time management skills, and high attention to detail;
- Excellent skills in preparing reports and presenting data in a manner that is visually appealing and easy to understand;
- Excellent critical thinking, analytical, problem-solving, conflict management and decision-making skills;
- Strong innovation, research and negotiation skills;
- Sound computer literacy skills; ability to manipulate software applications such as project management software, office productivity software, word processing, spreadsheets, databases and presentation programmes;
- Excellent team player with effective interpersonal skills and a high level of emotional intelligence;
- Ability to effectively exchange information, that is, oral and written communication, feedback, facilitation, active listening and diplomacy;
- Intellectually agile, visionary, innovative, flexible, adaptable and capable of translating ideas into policy documents, procedures and processes;
- Ability to integrate Company core values throughout all business practices;
- Ability to effectively develop and maintain relationships with management, staff, partners and stakeholders at all levels.
