CARILEC partners and signs MoU with Blue Planet Alliance in Hawai’i

CARILEC has entered a Memorandum of Understanding with Blue Planet Alliance and partnered for the fourth cohort of their Fellowship Program, in Honolulu, Hawai’i.

The mission of Blue Planet Alliance is to help islands, states, and countries achieve 100% renewable energy by 2045. The MOU between the two parties emphasises the shared commitment to collaborate to ensure a secure, renewable energy future for all Caribbean Island states.

The Blue Planet Alliance Fellowship program was held from May 18–23, with over 45 energy leaders from 9 island nations across the Caribbean, Pacific, and Indian Oceans, including Bahamas, Barbados, British Virgin Islands, Kiribati, Maldives, Niue, St. Lucia, St. Vincent and the Grenadines, and Samoa. Each island team was comprised of energy focused stakeholders from the utility, government, regulatory and community sectors. The representatives gather in Hawaii for a rigorous week-long seminar and workshop designed to help islands develop their own plans for a 100% renewable-energy transition.

During the Program, CARILEC’s Manager for Energy Solutions, Elizabeth Bullock-Defreitas presented information about the Association and how it provides support to utility members in their renewable energy (RE) transition initiatives, while also highlighting the advances of utility members towards their 100% RE goals. The program culminated with presentations from each island team on their proposed roadmaps towards 100% RE by 2045.

CARILEC extends sincere thanks to our partners at Blue Planet Alliance, Henk Rogers – Founder, Francois Rogers – Executive Director and Kneyone Murray – Caribbean Director, as well as supporting organizations and institutions who made the event a remarkable success – including the University of Hawai’i at Manoa, the State of Hawai’i, the Caribbean Centre for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency (CCREEE), Caribbean Climate-Smart Accelerator (CCSA), University of Guam, Arizona State University, Mana Pacific, Transition Zero and many others.

CARILEC is truly honoured to collaborate on this journey towards climate resilience, energy independence and 100% RE by 2045 for islands everywhere.
