Passport Requirements
To enter Barbados, you need a valid passport (ideally with 6 months’ validity beyond your stay), a return/onward ticket, and must complete the online Immigration/Customs form within 72 hours of arrival, showing proof of funds/accommodation; visa needs vary by nationality, but many (like U.S. citizens) don’t need one for short stays.
Language
The official language in Barbados is English.
Climate
Barbados weather is generally warm and sunny all year round with an average daytime high of 30°C / 86°F. In fact, Barbados has over 3,000 hours of sunshine each year! The prevailing northeast trade winds blow steadily so that although it is bright and sunny, it is not unbearably hot. The nights are usually slightly cooler. The rain typically comes in quick showers. The dry season lasts from January to June.
Currency
The currency of Barbados is the Barbados Dollar (BBD). The Barbados Dollar is converted at the rate of $1.98 BBD to $1.00 US and is fixed to the US Dollar and does not fluctuate. Its rate to other currencies fluctuates daily based on their fluctuations relative to the US Dollar. On your travels around Barbados you will find that US currency is accepted across the island, and most stores and restaurants accept major credit cards. Of course most Barbados hotels and other lodgings also accept these various forms of payment.
Electricity
Barbados uses 115V (or 110V) at 50Hz, requiring Type A/B (flat pin) plugs, so visitors from North America often need only an adapter, while those from Europe (220-240V) need both an adapter and a voltage converter.
