ACRONYMS

Ampere (Amp) – The unit of measure that tells how much electricity flows through a conductor. The unit
expressing the rate of flow of an electric current

CAIDI - Customer Average Interruption Duration Index
CAIFI - Customer Average Interruption Frequency Index
CARILEC - Caribbean Electric Utility Services Corporation
Gigawatt-Hour (GWh) – One million kilowatt-hours of electric power.

                   IPPs – Independent Power Producers
Kilovolt (kV) – A unit potential equal to a thousand (1000) volts (V).
KiloVolt Ampere (kVA) – A unit of Electrical power equal to 1000 volt-amperes.
Kilowatt (kW) “kilo” means 1,000. A kilowatt is 1,000 watts.
Kilowatt-hour (kWh) - A measure of electrical energy (a kilowatt-hour is the use of 1,000 watts of
                   electricity for one hour.)

Megawatt (MW) – One thousand kilowatts (1,000 kW) or one million (1,000,000) watts.
MWh - The use of one million watts of electricity for one hour (1000kWh).
                   N/A – Not Applicable
                   N/S – Not Stated
Ohm – The unit of measurement of the resistance of a conductor.
                   PUC – Public Utilities Commission
PBRM - Performance Based Rate-making Mechanism

Volt (V) – A unit of electromotive force. It is the amount of force required to drive a steady current of one
ampere through a resistance of one Ohm.

Watt - The basic unit of measurement of electric power in the SI system of units.
