An opportunity exists within Energyze Holdings Inc. to fill the position of Electrical/Renewable Energy Technician.

JOB SUMMARY

To install the various renewable energy systems, through correct and effective wiring and commissioning, and employing a preventive and reliability-centred maintenance programme to ensure the longevity and efficiency of renewable energy systems and reliability of energy flow, and to at all times, ensure projects are completed within the specified timeframe and deadlines.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

  • Commissions new equipment on the network, the development of an effective commissioning plan, to ensure new systems are effectively installed, tested and operating in accordance with the original design intent and the operational requirements of the Company;
  • Schedules maintenance activities for all plant components, networks, communications and other systems through the development and implementation of a preventive and reliability-centered maintenance programme to prevent breakdowns and ensure efficient operation;
  • Responds quickly to emergent maintenance issues, employing effective troubleshooting to diagnose and resolve the problems to minimize downtime and production losses;
  • Ensures effective maintenance practices by upholding safety standards and regulatory compliance, to safeguard both personnel and the environment from potential risks associated with energy production;
  • Maintains site activity log with detailed documentation on maintenance activities, and equipment performance, to enable effective tracking of maintenance work, identify trends, maintain a comprehensive record of operations and to provide management and clients with updates/reports on maintenance progress;
  • Checks and calibrates protective devices, alarms, and switchgear to maintain the functionality and reliability of critical equipment and safeguard the integrity of the renewable energy systems;
  • Manages administrative duties such as timekeeping, maintaining site inventory records, and organizing resources to ensure smooth workflow coordination, proper resource utilization, and compliance with internal protocols and standards;
  • Conducts site surveys for potential customers, and energy efficiency audits [where applicable] to gather data on the factors that influence system design and performance, to enable the development of detailed system design proposals, outlining the recommended renewable energy solution, equipment specifications, layout plans, and cost estimates;
  • Collaborates with engineers and designers to enable the development of renewable energy system designs that meet client requirements, site conditions, and performance objectives and comply with relevant safety codes and standards;
  • Assists in preparing customer documentation, inclusive of drafting contractual agreements, completing applications for interconnection with the grid, and submitting regulatory documents on behalf of the customer, to formalize the relationship with the customer, ensure compliance with regulatory requirements, and facilitate the seamless integration of renewable energy systems into the grid;
  • Installs renewable energy systems by following detailed drawings, schematics, and instructions, ensuring alignment with codes and standards, to guarantee safety, reliability, efficiency, and regulatory compliance, and contribute to the success and sustainability of renewable energy projects;
  • Collaborates with the procurement team to identify required materials, equipment, and tools for renewable energy projects, based on project specifications and installation requirements and prepares purchase orders, requests quotes from suppliers, tracks inventory levels, and ensures timely delivery of materials to the job site, project efficiency, resource management, quality assurance, and safety compliance;
  • Assists with overall crew and site preparation by staging materials, organizing equipment, setting up work areas, and laying out the site for efficient and safe construction activities, to promote efficient workflow, ensure safety compliance, optimize resource utilization, and achieve top-quality construction outcomes;
  • Conducts field start-up and commissioning functions during the installation of renewable energy systems, including making electrical connections, installing signs and labels for compliance, and testing and commissioning new equipment to ensure operational readiness, code compliance and equipment reliability;
  • Assists with customer training sessions, demonstrations, or user manuals to help educate end-users on system operation, maintenance procedures, troubleshooting steps, and safety guidelines, and to empower them to utilize the renewable energy system efficiently and effectively;
  • Accompanies regulatory (NURC, LUCELEC, Electrical Department-Ministry of Infrastructure) site inspectors, participating in on-site inspections, providing technical support, addressing inspector queries, to ensure regulatory compliance, modification clarity, efficient issue resolution, and professional collaboration;
  • Addresses routine customer inquiries, troubleshoots problems, and provides solutions for common issues related to renewable energy systems, ensuring customers receive timely assistance and support, and escalates complex issues, as per established escalation protocols, to ensure customer satisfaction, issue resolution, and quality assurance, ultimately contributing to positive customer experiences;
  • Inspects the work of contractors on site, ensuring adherence to quality standards, specification, safety regulations and documenting observations, providing feedback or corrective actions, where applicable, to enable the successful implementation and operation of renewable energy systems;
  • Ensures that Company-owned tools and equipment are maintained in good working condition through regular inspections and by developing a preventive and reliability-centered maintenance programme to minimize incidences of tool/equipment failure so that work can be undertaken safely and effectively;
  • Performs maintenance activities on all components of the renewable energy equipment, through regular cleaning and inspection procedures, oil sampling and analysis, and diagnostic testing, to ensure equipment reliability, safety assurance, operational efficiency, preventive maintenance practices, and to enable the long-term success and sustainability of renewable energy systems;
  • Varnishes and paints electrical and associated structural equipment, through effective surface preparation, using high-quality paints, varnishes, and protective coatings designed for electrical equipment and outdoor use, to protect against corrosion, enhance aesthetics, and ensure long-term durability;
  • Maintains lighting and electrical communication systems through regular inspection, cleaning, repairing, lubricating and upgrading of components, where necessary, adhering to safety regulations, industry standards, and manufacturer recommendations for maintenance, to optimize functionality and performance;
  • Updates the General Manager on operational matters by providing briefings as necessary, and submitting reports to enable timely responses to issues and the implementation of improvement measures, where necessary;
  • Remains current in the emerging market trends and technological developments of the industry by reading professional publications, networking, among others, to aid in the development of innovative approaches and techniques for performing the project management function;
  • Performs any other job-related duties as may be assigned.

 

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

  • Associate Degree in Electrical Engineering or any equivalent qualification, City & Guilds in Electrical Installation Part 1 and 2 in Electrical Maintenance or Certification in Electrical Installation or any equivalent qualification;
  • 2 years’ experience required in design, installation and/or maintenance of renewable energy systems;
  • 3+ years field service or power plant experience in energy-related technologies and applications required;
  • Photovoltaic installation Part 1 & 2 SJPP or similar qualification

 

KNOWLEDGE SKILLS & ABILITIES

  • Comprehensive understanding of renewable energy systems, components, and technologies such as solar panels, wind turbines, inverters, batteries, and power electronics;
  • Sound knowledge of and ability to interpret Company policies and standard operating procedures as well as the relevant legislation, regulations and codes of ethics related to the Company, as well as, familiarity with regulatory codes and standards related to the renewable energy industry;
  • Broad job knowledge and/or technical expertise relevant to the job, and provision of sound advice;
  • Competence in electrical principles, circuits, wiring, and safety practices related to high-voltage and low-voltage systems;
  • Proficiency in reading electrical diagrams, schematics, and technical documentation for renewable energy installations;
  • Practical knowledge and experience in using tools, equipment, and instruments for measuring electrical parameters, conducting tests, and carrying out maintenance procedures;
  • Proficiency in analyzing data, interpreting test results, and implementing corrective actions to optimize system performance;
  • Good knowledge of British standards BS7671 and familiarity with alternative current [AC] and direct current [DC] systems;
  • Knowledge of Occupational Health Hazards and Health and Safety Environmental and Quality (HSEQ) requirements;

  • Ability to direct or work with contractors, installers and equipment suppliers;
  • Ability to perform installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair tasks on renewable energy equipment and systems;
