Aqualectra, Saba Electric Company, Statia Utility Company and WEB Bonaire sign an MoU to collaborate on optimizing the energy sector
WILLEMSTAD – On Wednesday February 8th, utility companies from the countries Bonaire, Curaçao, Saba and Statia signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to initiate a collaboration aimed at optimizing the energy sector in these countries. Integrated Utility Holding (AQUALECTRA) signed the agreement with Saba Electric Company, Statia Utility Company and Water en Elektriciteitsbedrijf (WEB) Bonaire to formalize this endeavor to join forces and collaborate on projects, as well as share knowledge, experience and expertise, which will eventually be beneficial for the clients they serve.
The utility companies, each on their own, have vast knowledge, experience, and expertise in the field of water and energy production and distribution systems. Joint interest projects (subjects) which the utility companies are engaged in or wish to engage in will be discussed and when needed knowledge sharing, support and collaboration will be initiated to benefit not only the organizations involved but the community they serve. These projects will for sure be based on the energy transition and current operational challenges each of these organizations are facing.
This MoU forms a basis for the collaboration between these utilities and other utility companies in the Dutch Caribbean Kingdom are welcome to join and enhance the purpose of this MoU. The management of each company will be represented in a steering committee which will manage the various subjects of interest which will be addressed as a project each. The collaboration between the utility companies will further fortify the relationship between the utilities of the BES-islands and Curaçao with the end-goal to enhance the energy transition of these islands while optimizing the energy sector of each respective country.
