Nassau, Bahamas – October 8, 2024: Bahamas Power and Light Company Ltd. (BPL) is proud to announce the historicappointment of Ms. Toni Seymour as Chief Executive Officer (CEO). Ms. Seymour is the first Bahamian woman to hold thisprestigious role in the company’s 68-year history, marking asignificant milestone in BPL’s commitment to advancing women in STEM fields and promoting diversity and inclusionin leadership.
With a career spanning decades in the energy sector, Ms. Seymour brings a wealth of knowledge and expertise to hernew position. She is deeply committed to BPL’s mission: “To provide safe, reliable, and cost-effective electricity to our community while upholding the highest standards ofvcustomer service and operational efficiency.”
Born and raised on Long Island, Ms. Seymour has a unique understanding of the critical challenges faced by Family Island residents in accessing reliable electricity. Her personal connection to these communities has shaped hercommitment to advancing energy resilience and
sustainability across The Bahamas.
Ms. Seymour began her career in BPL’s highly regarded Engineer- In-Training program, where she quickly rose through the ranks to hold key leadership roles. Throughout her career, she has been instrumental in overseeing major infrastructure projects, including the Wilson City Power Plant in Abaco and various upgrades across the Family Islands.
As BPL’s new CEO, Ms. Seymour’s leadership comes at a pivotal time, as the company embarks on a series of transformative initiatives. These include the Family Island Microgrids and Renewable Energy Projects, designed to bring greater energy independence and sustainability to island communities. She will also spearhead efforts to expand solar power integration and oversee New Providence’s Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs), ensuring a cleaner and more reliable energy future for The Bahamas.
