Power Plant. This virtual power plant would be made available to the grid operator in the management of the
power on the island and respond to unified commands and response from the subscribers.

The SMART Home is a node on the larger grid and can participate in various grid functions and is essential to
lowering the future cost of electricity and allow the Government of Jamaica’s 2030 50% renewable energy target
to be realized. Harmonized construction, energy, ICT and environmental policies, regulations and enforced
standards will need to be developed and promulgated to ensure this becomes strategically intentional.

Architects and Developers need to design and build sustainable structures to meet the “real” need of Jamaicans
that also combats the consequences of climate departure and lowers the demand for energy to keep cool.
Structures should be “SMART home ready” and allow for plug and play integration of smart devices and factor
ample roof spaces or common areas for self-generation. Financial Institutions also need to see this vision.
With the global projection for the SMART home market to be $448 billion by 2030 and the compelling business
case, they need to be creative in providing solutions and incentives for Smart Home projects and ownership.
